First stop: Linville Falls.
Seems as though many people had the same idea. Despite the bustle of excited hikers, we began our trek up the path to the lookout. Beautiful, rich reds and crisp, golden yellows greeted us around every bend. The soft rustle of the leaves mixed with the gentle breeze omitting from the river guided us up to our destination. Smooth, rippled rocks cradled our feet as we made our way through to the lookout. We came to a stone staircase and realized we had reached our destination. At the bottom of the staircase, we were met with a breath-taking view.
Eventually, we were able to pry ourselves away from the calm of the rushing water. We made our way back down the path and continued North along the Blue Ridge Parkway. As we reached higher elevations, the richness of the colors that surrounded us intensified. Seeing such views, one wonders how such beauty was ever created. One can only be thankful to be alive, well and able to experience such spectacular beauty. We continued our adventure until we reached the town of Blowing Rock, NC. There, we filled our stomachs with some of the best BBQ in the area at "The Woodlands Barbecue". Perfect end to a perfect day.
